Sony Brings Back The “PlayStation Exclusive” Branding

Sony Interactive Entertainment has brought back the “PlayStation Exclusive” branding for first-party titles.

The official PlayStation web pages for the upcoming horror adventure game, Until Dawn 2, and the 2025 action-adventure game, Ghost of Yotei, now has a “PlayStation Exclusive” badge alongside their names to highlight their exclusivity (via NextGenPlayer on Twitter/X). As such, it looks like Sony Interactive Entertainment has brought back the branding for tentpole first-party titles after a hiatus of over a decade. This is part of an effort from the company to strengthen its console ecosystem and make it more appealing for consumers.

In June, a Features trailer for the company’s new 27-inch gaming monitor included a segment showing Ghost of Yotei running on the display alongside the return of the “Only on PlayStation” marketing label.  The accompanying text read, “Game available only on PS5.”

A month prior, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that PlayStation Studio Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst informed staff during a recent company town hall meeting that PlayStation’s story-focused first-party games will now be exclusive to its consoles. His comments effectively confirmed Schreier’s earlier reporting regarding Sony’s changing approach to PC releases. “SCOOP: PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst told staff in a town hall Monday morning that the company’s narrative single-player games will now be PlayStation exclusive,” Schreier wrote on Bluesky.

Earlier in April, it was reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment had begun removing mention of PC from the PlayStation back-end. For starters, the description for the console maker’s XDev program has been altered from “Collaborating with ambitious external studios across the globe” to “Partnering with talented independent studios to publish exciting, exclusive titles for PlayStation players worldwide.” Additionally, the company had also removed the “PS5/PC” icons from the PlayStation back-end, further indicating the console maker’s intent to pivot away from releasing PlayStation first-party titles on PC.
