Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed that its PlayStation Stars loyalty program will be coming to an end, with the company setting November 2, 2026, as the date when the program will be fully discontinued. The announcement marks a significant shift in Sony’s community engagement strategy, as the company now plans to explore new directions for its loyalty initiatives.
Originally launched in 2022, PlayStation Stars was designed to reward players for engaging with their PlayStation consoles, with incentives including redeemable points, status levels, and a variety of digital collectibles that celebrated the platform’s rich gaming history. Over the past three years, the program has aimed to foster a deeper connection between Sony and its global player base.
Effective immediately, Sony has closed off new registrations to PlayStation Stars. Existing members may still earn points, digital collectibles, and status upgrades until July 23, 2025, at 7:59AM PDT. However, no further campaigns or new rewards will be introduced after that date. Members should also take note that voluntarily cancelling their membership from this point forward will result in the permanent loss of all accumulated points and the inability to rejoin the current version of the program.
Sony clarified that while campaign activity and reward opportunities will conclude in 2025, players will still have access to their digital collectibles. Points may also continue to be redeemed until the program’s closure in November 2026, assuming they do not expire prior to that date.
A statement from the company noted, “Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to. As a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. We have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars.”
While details on a successor or revised loyalty initiative have not been revealed, Sony emphasized that the insights gained from PlayStation Stars will guide future efforts to provide more meaningful rewards and community engagement tools.
