Spyro: A Realm Beyond Announced, Introducing the Purple Dragon’s Biggest Adventure Yet

by Ali Haider

Spyro is officially returning in a brand-new adventure.

During the Xbox Games Showcase, Toys For Bob unveiled Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the next major entry in the beloved platforming franchise. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support and a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass.

The new title follows Spyro after he becomes stranded in a mysterious realm. His search for a way home is interrupted by the arrival of a hostile invading force known as the Scavs, forcing the purple dragon to join forces with new allies and defend the world from destruction.

According to the official description, players will “take flight on a brand-new adventure through a strange and wondrous realm” as Spyro works to protect the land before it is changed forever.

A major focus of the game appears to be aerial traversal. Toys For Bob describes the project as Spyro’s “boldest evolution yet,” with players able to soar across expansive environments, weave through treetops, dive from towering landmarks, and navigate the world with a greater emphasis on freeform flight than previous entries in the series.

The developer says players will be able to chain together dives, climbs, and sharp turns while exploring vibrant landscapes from the skies. The reveal trailer showcased large-scale environments and a greater sense of verticality than fans have traditionally associated with the franchise.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond marks the first entirely new Spyro adventure from Toys For Bob since the studio’s work on the critically acclaimed Spyro Reignited Trilogy. While specific gameplay systems and release timing have yet to be revealed, the announcement suggests that the studio is aiming to significantly expand the series’ movement and exploration mechanics.

No release date was announced during the reveal, but Spyro: A Realm Beyond is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. More details are expected to be shared as development progresses.
