Square Enix has officially announced DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World, the next entry in the long-running monster-collecting RPG spin-off series.
The publisher confirmed the game is currently in development for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and the Microsoft Store on Windows. No release date or gameplay details were shared alongside the announcement.
The Dragon Quest Monsters series serves as a spin-off of the mainline Dragon Quest franchise, focusing on recruiting, training, and breeding monsters rather than traditional hero-focused adventures. The series originally debuted on the Game Boy Color under the name Dragon Warrior Monsters and built a dedicated audience through its monster synthesis mechanics and party customization systems.
Over the years, the franchise has become known for allowing players to combine creatures to inherit new skills, abilities, and stat bonuses while featuring many of the iconic monster designs associated with Dragon Quest and late artist Akira Toriyama.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World follows more recent releases such as Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, which helped reintroduce the spin-off series to modern platforms.
