Square Enix has officially announced DRAGON QUEST XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, with the RPG set to launch on September 24, 2026.

The new release brings the complete version of the acclaimed role-playing game to Nintendo’s current-generation hardware while introducing additional optimization options designed specifically for the platform. According to the announcement, players will be able to prioritize either graphics or performance through new display modes.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version includes all content previously added in the Definitive Edition release. This includes additional story chapters centered around party members, Japanese voice acting alongside expanded English voice options, an orchestrated soundtrack, and the ability to switch freely between the game’s full 3D presentation and retro-inspired 2D mode.

Square Enix described the title as “the entirety of the ageless Erdrean adventure, all in one package,” following the journey of the Luminary as he uncovers the truth behind his destiny while assembling companions across the world of Erdrea.

Originally released in 2017, Dragon Quest XI later received the expanded Definitive Edition treatment on Nintendo Switch in 2019 before arriving on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2020. The updated version combined features from multiple editions of the game while adding substantial new content and quality-of-life improvements.

The Nintendo Switch 2 release continues Square Enix’s growing support for the platform as the company prepares additional Dragon Quest projects ahead of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations in 2027.
