Starfield’s reported Nintendo Switch 2 port has encountered significant development problems, according to industry insider NateTheHate, who said he doesn’t know whether the project has been shelved. The update raises further questions about whether Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG will make its way to Nintendo’s hybrid console.
The discussion began when a user asked NateTheHate on X about the status of Starfield and DOOM: The Dark Ages for Switch 2. The user referenced an earlier report from August 2025 that pointed to a 2026 release window for Starfield and asked whether both games remained planned for Nintendo’s platform.
In response, NateTheHate said, “Starfield port for Switch 2 hit lots of obstacles and development hurdles. I don’t know if it has been shelved or not at present; but it wouldn’t surprise me.”
The comment doesn’t confirm that the port has been cancelled. However, it suggests the project has faced enough difficulties that its future is uncertain, with no confirmed release date currently available.
Starfield originally launched for Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6, 2023, before arriving on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026. Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the role-playing game takes players across a large science-fiction universe featuring space exploration, planetary environments and customizable characters.
