Valve Corporation’s upcoming VR headset, the Steam Frame, will launch with an “Enthusiast kit” that includes a swappable battery.

The official Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website has been updated with filings (via m1n3c7afty on Reddit) for the upcoming Steam Frame, one of which has revealed that the Virtual Reality device will launch with an “Enthusiast kit” that includes a hot-swappable battery.

According to the text on page 11 of the user manual under the “Care, Cleaning, And Maintenance” section, the Steam Frame contains a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.  It is further stated that the Frame Enthusiast kit also includes a hot-swappable lithium-ion battery pack, confirming that the hardware accessory bundle will be available at launch.

The FCC filings suggests that the Enthusiast kit is designed as an upgrade pack for longer usage, allowing users to exchange the battery while the headset is running. The accessory battery will use magnets for attachment, much like the face gasket attachment and controller triggers.

Earlier this month, Extended Reality (XR) specialist Brad Lynch shared details regarding Valve Corporation’s recent warehouse activity, suggesting that the Steam Frame may be close to launch. He claimed that the company has been receiving “Virtual Reality Devices” imports in bulk quantity as of June 10, 2026, at its distribution warehouse in the US. It’s safe to assume that the aforementioned “Virtual Reality Devices” inbound at Valve Corporation’s warehouse are Steam Frame units, as the company has no other VR headset currently in production. The source of Lynch’s information is a bot that tracks import records to companies of interest and provides him the findings.

When asked by a follower about the delay between Steam Controller warehouse imports being spotted and the announcement of its release, Lynch mentioned that the duration was around 3 to 4 weeks, suggesting that the Steam Frame’s launch date may be announced within a similar time frame.
