Sony Interactive Entertainment will not do any case-by-case evaluation for PC ports of single-player PlayStation exclusives, according to investigative journalist Jason Schreier.

Bloomberg’s investigative journalist Jason Schreier took to the ResetEra forums to react to ambiguity surrounding the recent statement issued by Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino on the exclusivity status of first-party PlayStation games amid reports of the company moving away from PC ports. According to Schreier, while the console maker may not have explained it clearly, there is no ambiguity in its strategy to pull away from PC for its single-player titles. “I guess they’re not going to lay this out publicly, but there’s no ambiguity in their strategy,” he said.

He referred to his reporting of a company town hall meeting last month, during which PlayStation Studios Business Group CEO Hermen Hulst told staff that single-player first-party narrative-driven games will remain PlayStation-only going forward. According to Schreier, the executive explained that they were inconsistent with PlayStation’s PC releases, and that the initiative make didn’t enough money. As such, the company decided to keep its IP aligned to its own platform. “During a townhall a few weeks ago, Hermen Hulst told staff that their single-player narrative games will be PlayStation only, and he explained that they were inconsistent with their PC releases, they didn’t make enough money, and they want to keep their IP aligned to their own platform,” he stated.

The investigative journalist mentioned that he confirmed the aforementioned information with two people who directly heard it from Hulst. He further clarified that there is no case-by-case evaluation for PC ports of single-player PlayStation exclusives. “Confirmed this with two people who heard him say it. There’s no “case by case” here,” he said.

In his statement, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino stated that single-player games developed in-house will “further refine the value of the gaming experience that PlayStation can offer.”
