Bandai Namco has offered reassurance regarding the future of Tekken following a string of high-profile departures from the franchise’s development leadership over the past two years.
The latest comments came from Tekken Chief Producer Naoya Yasuda, who shared a message after the recent departure of Tekken 8 and Tekken 7 Game Director Kohei Ikeda. Reflecting on Ikeda’s contributions to the series, Yasuda wrote, “20 years. That’s not just time — it’s a huge chapter of #TEKKEN history. @nkt_dreamer helped write it, alongside those who came before and the community that made it matter.”
Yasuda thanked Ikeda for his work on the franchise, adding, “Grateful for everything you built and left behind for us to carry forward.”
The producer also sought to emphasize that Tekken’s future extends beyond any individual developer. “From here, the @TEKKEN_Project moves forward as one. Not just a few people — but all of us, fully committed, moving together,” he said. He concluded the message by stating, “Built by many fists, carried by many souls. The journey continues. See you for the next battle!!”
The statement arrives during a period of significant transition for the Tekken development team. Between 2025 and 2026, several prominent figures associated with the franchise stepped away from their previous roles. These include Executive Game Director Katsuhiro Harada, Game Director and Chief Producer Kohei Ikeda, and Producer and Assistant Director Yohei Shimbori.
The departures have raised questions among some fans regarding the long-term direction of the series, particularly as Bandai Namco continues to support Tekken 8 with post-launch updates and competitive esports initiatives.
Released in January 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Tekken 8 introduced the Heat system, a new gameplay mechanic designed to encourage aggressive playstyles. The title continues the long-running conflict between members of the Mishima and Kazama families while serving as the latest mainline entry in Bandai Namco’s flagship fighting game franchise.
