Sony Interactive Entertainment’s upcoming mid-gen console, the PS5 Pro, appears to feature easier CMOS battery access with a new dedicated slot.
It turns out that graphics processing, AI upscaling, and memory bandwidth aren’t the only prominent upgrades included with the PS5 Pro, as the mid-gen console also appears to feature a CMOS battery replacement slot for user convenience. An image making the rounds on the internet has seemingly confirmed this information ahead of the console’s unboxing embargo date on November 4, 2024.
PS5 Pro CMOS Battery Slot Revealed
The PS5 Pro’s CMOS battery slot can be seen in the image below.
The CMOS slot in the PS5 Pro appears to be located behind its lower faceplate. With the faceplace removed, PS5 Pro owners will have access to both the SSD expansion slot and the new battery slot on this side of the console. The original PS5 model nor the slim version offer this feature, making it extremely difficult to keep the console up and running in the distant future.
Game preservationists will be pleased to know that Sony Interactive Entertainment has listened to their complaints, the PS5 Pro makes the act of replacing the CMOS battery much more consumer-friendly. This will ensure that the mid-gen console will have a long shelf life, provided it doesn’t suffer an issue besides battery failure.
Just recently, the PS5 Pro made its first unofficial appearance, as an early unboxing video managed to surface, showcasing what buyers can expect from the retail packaging. Although Sony’s embargo restricts official reviews and impressions until November 6, with unboxing videos allowed on November 4, a German retailer obtained the console in advance and shared an unboxing video on Instagram. The video not only displays the console itself but also confirms the inclusion of a USB-C cable within the box. You can check it out in action below.
