Housemarque has shared new technical details for Saros, outlining how the upcoming action title will take advantage of both PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro hardware ahead of its April 30 release. The studio positions the game as a showcase for Sony’s current console generation, with enhancements spanning visuals, audio, and controller integration.
On PS5 Pro, Saros will feature an updated version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, incorporating a newer iteration of the upscaling technology introduced in March. According to the development team, this results in a significantly sharper image that approaches native 4K quality. In addition to improved upscaling, the base render resolution has also been increased on PS5 Pro, allowing for clearer image output at a target of 60 fps during gameplay.
Housemarque notes that dynamic resolution scaling is still used to maintain performance during more demanding sequences, but the Pro hardware consistently delivers improved clarity across scenes. The enhancements extend beyond resolution, with adjustments made to reflections and overall visual fidelity. While gameplay targets 60 fps, certain story-driven cinematics run at 30 fps to prioritize higher quality character rendering, lighting, and post-processing, with PS5 Pro offering higher fidelity in these moments as well.
Audio has also been expanded through the use of Tempest 3D AudioTech, building on the studio’s previous work in Returnal. The system is designed to create a more immersive soundscape, allowing players to perceive environmental cues, enemy positions, and music from all directions when using compatible headphones or audio setups.
The DualSense controller plays a central role in Saros, with adaptive triggers introducing layered weapon functionality. A half press of the L2 trigger activates alternate fire modes, including heavier projectiles and specialized attacks, while a full press unleashes a more powerful weapon tied to the game’s Eclipse system. These mechanics are intended to add depth to combat while maintaining a fluid control scheme.
Haptic feedback has also been expanded, with the studio emphasizing a more detailed and nuanced approach to conveying environmental effects, combat feedback, and narrative moments through the controller. Meanwhile, the PS5’s SSD enables near-instant loading, allowing players to quickly return to gameplay after death or transition between gameplay states with minimal interruption.
Housemarque also confirmed that players who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition will gain 48 hours of early access ahead of the April 30 launch. Pre-orders will include additional in-game content such as the Hands of Shore Armour, while the deluxe upgrade can be purchased separately for those opting for the physical edition.
Saros is described as a single-player, gameplay-focused action experience and marks the studio’s next major project following Returnal. It is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on April 30, 2026.
