John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando patch 1.6 introduces a new Insane difficulty, designed as the ultimate challenge for fully progressed players. Unlockable after completing maps on Hard, this mode also includes dedicated rewards and adjustments based on public test feedback.
Beyond difficulty additions, the update delivers extensive balance changes across multiple classes, along with improvements to progression systems and gameplay mechanics. Several bug fixes and stability enhancements have also been implemented, addressing gameplay issues and crash scenarios.

Balance Changes
Operator Class
- Drone damage increased by 20 percent and duration increased by 100 percent
- Dragonbreath damage increased by 125 percent and duration increased by 100 percent
- Lancer duration reduced by 75 percent
- Impulse damage reduced by 20 percent and duration increased by 200 percent
Defender Class
- Triad ability upgraded to Pentad
- Deploys five barriers instead of three
- Reduced energy usage by 55 percent when inactive
- Efficiency perk updated
- Reduces energy usage by 15 percent per level when barriers are inactive
- Four upgrade levels available
Medic Class
- Trauma Center updated
- Energy now regenerates from enemy kills by default
- Duration reduced by 50 percent
- Emergency Aid updated
- Energy regeneration tied to enemy kills by default
- Wizardry perk updated
- Passive energy regeneration increased by 1 percent per second
Strike Class
- Shatterblast energy regeneration time increased significantly to 20 seconds
- Cluster explosion damage increased by 33 percent
- Sentinel damage increased by 33 percent
- Ammo capacity increased to 25 shots
Bug Fixes
- Fixed Hellspawn remaining invincible during final stage of The Pit
- Fixed Defender temporary armor not restoring correctly after damage
- Fixed Repulsor perk not affecting all enemies within shield
- Fixed terminal interaction issue in Root of Evil requiring simultaneous input
- Fixed Snare becoming inactive after spawning
- Fixed exploit allowing Medic Remote subclass players to infinitely restore abilities
Stability Improvements
- Implemented multiple crash fixes
- Improved overall game stability
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment, launched on March 12, 2026. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
