Microsoft may not have any new Xbox game announcements planned for Gamescom 2026, according to leaker NateTheHate, who has now walked back his earlier suggestion that a new Xbox announcement was expected at the event.
NateTheHate previously said he had heard about “a neat Xbox announcement that should be at Gamescom.” His comments led to speculation about what Microsoft could reveal, with a new Ori game among the possibilities.
In a new update, however, NateTheHate said the situation appears to have changed based on his recent conversations. “A quick update: Based on recent conversations, it does not seem likely that we’ll get any new Xbox game announcements at Gamescom,” he said.
The update also casts further uncertainty over the previously reported Ori project. NateTheHate had earlier confirmed that a new Ori game was what he had been referring to when discussing an upcoming Xbox-related announcement, although he had not confirmed whether it would appear at Gamescom.
The possibility of a new Ori game has also been complicated by comments from Moon Studios co-founder Thomas Mahler. Mahler recently said he had not heard anything about Ori 3, despite the rumours surrounding the franchise.
Gamescom 2026 could therefore end up being focused on previously announced Xbox projects rather than a major new game reveal. Microsoft has yet to confirm its full plans for the event, so the possibility of announcements cannot be completely ruled out until the show takes place.
