God of War creator David Jaffe appears to think that the upcoming God of War Ragnarok will be a cross-generation release like Horizon Forbidden West.
He shared this comment in a live stream playthrough of the first game on the PS4 that was captured by a user on Twitter. We should keep in mind that since he doesn’t work at Sony, this is just speculation from his side.

God of War PS4 was one of the fastest-selling games for Sony that has managed to achieve roughly 20 million sales and generated revenue in excess of $500 million. It is one of the most successful games released by Sony on the PS4.
During the reveal of the PlayStation 5 games lineup, GOW Ragnorak was announced as one of the games that are coming soon for the PS5. There is no release date or window given for this upcoming game, but rumors suggest that it could be targeting the 2021 release window that could be internally pushed to 2022.
PS4 is the second best-selling console released by Sony and has surpassed the sales of the PS1. While it might not reach the lifetime sales of the PS2, it has a userbase of more than 110 million which is hard to ignore especially if the first God of War generated a record amount of revenue on it. While David Jaffe is just speculating with no insider information, it won’t be a surprise if this turns out to be true.
Sony Santa Monica is currently working on the sequel to the critical and commercial hit that was released exclusively for the PS4 in 2018. It was directed by Cory Barlog, who is apparently working on the sequel as well. Ragnarok was only shown with a small teaser of the logo during the PlayStation 5 games showcase.
