Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is a brand new 3D Mario game that brings a classic to the Nintendo Switch with a new expansion.
While Super Mario 3D World ran at a resolution of 720p and a frame rate of 60 FPS, the port will update to a higher resolution for the Nintendo Switch. As reported by Nintendo Everything citing different sources, the game runs at a resolution of 1080p and 60 FPS in Docked mode, and 720p and 60 FPS in Portable mode on the Nintendo Switch, but this is limited to the older port only.
When we are talking about the new expansion, things are slightly different. In the case of Bowser’s Fury, which is a mixture of the open-world of Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D World, the game drops down to 720p and 60 FPS for Docked mode and 720p and 30 FPS during the Portable mode.
This result might not be that surprising considering Super Mario Odyssey ran at a dynamic 1080p resolution on the Nintendo Switch. The open-world nature of Bower’s Fury makes it a demanding game compared to the level-based design of the SM3D World.
In addition to bringing SM3D World to the Nintendo Switch, the other enhancements in this port include online multiplayer as well as the new expansion called Bowser’s Fury. This will see the player through a large open-world as they prepare Mario in a face-off against Bowser while getting help from Bowser Jr.
This game was a part of the Super Mario 35th anniversary announcement that also included a Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. You can read a review of this collection to learn more about it.
