Arizona Sunshine Coming to PC and Consoles This Year

Vertigo Games has announced that Arizona Sunshine, the long-running zombie shooter franchise that began in virtual reality, is making the jump to traditional gaming platforms later this year.

The developer revealed that the series is being adapted for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing its cooperative zombie-slaying action to players outside of VR for the first time. The new version reimagines the gameplay and storytelling of the Arizona Sunshine series while retaining its signature blend of action, humor, and over-the-top undead combat.

Built around the story and world established in Arizona Sunshine VR 2, the upcoming release shifts the experience to a third-person perspective designed specifically for consoles and PC. Players will still battle through hordes of zombies across the deserts of Arizona, but the new viewpoint aims to make the action more accessible to a broader audience.

The story follows Sunny, a survivor navigating a zombie-infested Arizona alongside his canine companion, Buddy. Sunny’s dark sense of humor and frequent conversations with the undead, whom he collectively refers to as “Freds,” form the backdrop for a narrative focused on survival, companionship, and life after the apocalypse.

Co-op remains a major part of the experience. Players can tackle the campaign alone or join forces with a friend through online multiplayer. Local split-screen co-op is also included, allowing two players to fight through the undead outbreak together on a single screen.

Combat features a range of familiar zombie-slaying tools, including shotguns, machetes, flamethrowers, and other weapons designed for dispatching large groups of enemies. Vertigo Games says encounters are built around chaotic situations where battles can quickly spiral out of control, encouraging teamwork and quick reactions.

One of the biggest additions is Buddy, Sunny’s loyal dog companion. Beyond serving as a story character, Buddy can be controlled during co-op play, offering a different way to approach combat and exploration. The dog is capable of locating secrets and helping players deal with enemies in close-range encounters.

The move to a third-person camera also marks a significant change for the franchise. Previous Arizona Sunshine games were designed entirely around virtual reality, while the new release has been rebuilt to deliver a more traditional action experience on televisions and monitors.

Vertigo Games has not announced a specific release date, but Arizona Sunshine is scheduled to launch later in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Wishlists are available now on most platforms, with Nintendo Switch 2 wishlist support expected to be added at a later date.
