Battlefield 6 Update Improves Vehicle Combat in Season 3

by Greg Martin

DICE has shared new details on upcoming changes to vehicle gameplay in Battlefield 6, with a focus on land vehicles as part of the game’s Season 3 update. The developer says the adjustments are based heavily on community feedback, targeting areas where vehicle combat has felt inconsistent or unclear during moment to moment gameplay.

According to the studio, player feedback highlighted three main concerns: predictability in combat, vehicle survivability, and overall responsiveness. While internal data suggested vehicles were statistically balanced, DICE acknowledged that real gameplay experiences did not always reflect that balance, prompting a deeper overhaul of how vehicles behave on the battlefield .

One of the most notable changes is aimed at making combat outcomes easier to understand. Damage values are being standardized, reducing the wide variance previously caused by small differences in hit angles. Anti-tank weapons will generally require three hits to destroy tanks, instead of two in many cases, while flanking will remain a key tactic for dealing higher damage. Guided weapons are also being adjusted to deal consistent damage regardless of impact angle, improving reliability in engagements.

Vehicle survivability is also being reworked to address extremes where vehicles could feel either too fragile or overly durable. Repairs will now weaken over time during combat, and stacking multiple Engineers will result in diminishing returns. Health regeneration is being adjusted as well, with a longer delay before it begins, but a faster recovery rate once it activates. Vehicles will also be able to regenerate health even when critically damaged, though at a reduced speed.

Handling improvements form another key part of the update. DICE is increasing acceleration, turning responsiveness, and turret rotation speeds to make vehicles feel more reactive during combat. Changes are also being made to reduce instances where vehicles lose mobility due to general damage, instead tying immobilization to specific tools such as mines. For air vehicles, new interface indicators will help players better detect incoming threats and missiles.

Beyond core mechanics, the update introduces adjustments to loadouts and equipment. Certain upgrades, such as Reinforced Plating, are being removed to improve clarity in combat, while new and reworked passives aim to expand viable build options. Engineer loadouts are also receiving a balance pass, with improvements to underused launchers and anti-vehicle tools to encourage more diverse strategies.

DICE notes that these changes represent only part of a broader set of updates planned for Season 3, with additional details to be shared closer to release. The developer also confirmed that further tweaks to both land and air vehicles are under review, alongside adjustments tailored for specific modes.
