Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Runs Similarly Across PS5, Xbox Series X|S & PS5 Pro

Kepler Interactive and Sandfall Interactive’s role-playing game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is now available for PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S, and if you’re on the fence about which version to pick up, read ahead.

In terms of graphical settings, the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X versions of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 offer two display modes, namely Quality and Performance. Xbox Series X, PS5, and PS5 Pro have very similar graphics settings across both configurations. The Performance mode reduces the quality of shadows, reflections, vegetation and some textures. Meanwhile, in its only graphics mode, the Xbox Series S version exhibits graphical settings similar to those seen in the Performance mode on the other consoles. In addition, there are some cutbacks to the quality of global illumination.

In terms image quality, the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 operate at a dynamic resolution internally that is upscaled to 4K (2160p) in Quality mode, commonly running at 900p to 1080p. In Performance mode, the game also runs at a dynamic resolution internally that is upscaled to 1800p, commonly running at 720p to 1080p on both consoles. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X version runs at a dynamic resolution internally that is upscaled to 1260p, commonly running at 831p to 914p. Lastly, the PS5 Pro version also runs at a dynamic resolution internally that maxes out at 4K in Quality mode and 1800p in Performance mode. It commonly runs at 1080p to 1552p (Quality) or 1062p to 1386p (Performance) on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s mid-gen console.

With regards to performance, the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X versions of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 targets a frame rate of 30 fps in Quality mode and 60 fps in Performance mode. and is able to maintain both targets for the most part. The same is true for the Xbox Series S version’s only graphics mode, which targets a frame rate of 30 fps.

All in all, the PS5 Pro version of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 delivers the best possible console experience, though it doesn’t offer any worthwhile improvements over the base console outside of a boost in resolution.
