Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Launch Trailer Prepares Us For An Epic Journey

by Greg Martin

Square Enix has released a launch trailer and new artwork for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, bringing fresh excitement to fans as they anticipate the game’s release on November 14, 2024.

This remake reintroduces players to the beloved RPG classic with Square Enix’s HD-2D graphical engine, known for merging pixel-art charm with modern high-definition effects. This revitalized visual style gives a fresh feel to the well-known Dragon Quest world while retaining the essence of the original’s retro aesthetic. Serving as the first entry in the famed Erdrick Trilogy, this re-envisioned title offers a nostalgic yet innovative gameplay experience that aims to honor its foundational role in the Dragon Quest series.

In this remake, players assume the role of Ortega’s child, called to action by the king of Aliahan to continue Ortega’s unfinished quest to defeat the Archfiend Baramos. This journey draws upon the core storyline of the original Dragon Quest III, combining it with modern enhancements to the gameplay. One notable addition is the new “Monster Wrangler” vocation, which expands the party-building mechanics by allowing players to capture and recruit monsters to aid in battle. Players can also choose from various vocations, customizing their party’s composition with different skills and appearances to create a well-rounded team.

The world of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is a richly detailed landscape filled with towns, castles, caves, and dungeons. With its traditional turn-based combat system, players will face various foes, where strategic planning—through tactics, weapons, spells, and abilities—is crucial for success.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake launches on November 14, 2024, and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This opens the adventure to a wide audience across major platforms. It is part of the Erdrick Trilogy and will be followed up with more Dragon Quest Remakes in the HD-2D engine.
