GTA 6 Receives Restricted R18+ Rating In Australia

by Salal Awan

Grand Theft Auto VI has received a restricted R18+ classification from Australia’s Classification Board, with the official rating citing strong impacts for themes, violence, language, drug use, nudity and sex.

The Australian Classification Board’s consumer advice describes the game as containing high-impact violence, sex scenes and drug use. The R18+ classification restricts the game to adults aged 18 and over in Australia.

The official classification also provides a brief description of the game’s story. Jason and Lucia are described as criminals whose plans go wrong, leaving them caught in a criminal conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida and increasingly dependent on each other.

The classification lists strong impacts across six content categories: themes, violence, language, drug use, nudity and sex. These categories form the basis for the game’s R18+ rating in Australia.

The Australian classification follows age ratings that have also been issued for GTA 6 in other territories. The game has received a PEGI 18 classification in Europe and an ESRB Mature 17+ rating in North America, while Saudi Arabia’s official classification system has listed the game as 21+.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
