Elden Ring Stuttering Fix For PC: Here’s How To Improve Performance

The PC version of the game suffers from some performance issues so we have outlined some steps for a stuttering fix of Elden Ring. Fans are expressing their disappointment at the performance of the PC version, and while patches are coming, this temporary fix can do the work in the meanwhile.

Elden Ring is not a flawless game by any means in terms of technical presentation as there are quite a few problems with the game on consoles and PC. We have already covered the performance of the game on PS5 and Xbox Series, as well as the PS4.

If you are playing the game on PC, chances are that you might be encountering stuttering in Elden Ring. This has been reported by a lot of players and it has also led to negative reviews for the game on Steam. While From Software is working on a fix for this problem, here’s some troubleshooting to help you resolve this problem.

How To Fix Stuttering For Elden Ring On PC

The first method to fix stuttering deals with exiting the game and changing Windows graphics settings. Follow the steps below to attempt it.

  • Exit the game if you encounter stuttering.
  • In your Windows bar, search for Graphics.
  • Find “Graphics Settings” and click on it.
  • Choose the Desktop app and click on “Browse”.
  • You need to search for your drive for the game files and then set the options to “High Performance”.
  • Finally, start the game and test if stuttering is fixed.
  • Additionally, you can disable Steam overlay and run Steam in the “High Performance” mode.

Another method that has been reported to work is for the NVIDIA Control Panel. In your NVIDIA Control Panel, set the global “Shader Cache” size to “Unlimited” to improve the frame rate.

Lastly, if you are not getting any better performance with these fixes, there is a step to perform that can hopefully resolve or make the game play better for you. You need to press the Windows Key + X to open the Device Manager. Go to Software Devices, and right-click to disable Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator.

If you are still experiencing problems with the game, make sure to take a look at the PC system requirements to determine if you have the hardware to play it with the recommended or even minimum requirements.

As for how these fixes will resolve some of the performance issues, let’s just shrug and say that it is either bad coding by From Software, or just complications of the PC port with hundreds of hardware/software configurations.

Elden Ring is available now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
