ESRB and PEGI have rated the upcoming Evil Dead The Game giving us an overview of the various in-game weapons, enemies, and more.
Evil Dead The Game was originally set to launch in early 2022 but it was later delayed to May 2022. The game is coming to almost all major platforms including the PS4, and PS5.
According to the rating description provided by ESRB and PEGI, players can expect to see the same violence that they have seen featured in the movies and the TV show based on the Evil Dead IP.
This is an action horror game in which players battle either human survivors or demonic forces in multiplayer matches. As survivors, players must find the pages of a map while killing demonic forces by using melee and ranged weapons (e.g., cleaver, chain saw, crossbows, pistols). As demonic forces, players must kill human survivors by setting traps and controlling demonic minions and inanimate objects (e.g., trucks, trees). Battles are frenetic, often accompanied by large blood-splatter effects that leave stains on characters and the environment. Some survivors can perform finishing attacks that result in dismemberment, decapitation, and/or disembowelment of enemies. When controlling demonic minions, players can rip their minion’s arm and/or head off to use as a weapon against opponents. Some demonic creatures are depicted partially nude with exposed buttocks and/or breasts. The word “sh*t” is heard in the game, and a handful of characters are shown raising their middle fingers.
PEGI has also shared some details on the in-game shop revealing what will be available to purchase from it.
Brief outline of the game
Online horror multiplayer game in which players can take on the roles of various characters from the Evil Dead series.
Content-specific issues
This game contains graphic violence as both human and possessed characters are attacked with a variety of weapons. Characters can be stabbed, slashed or shot, but it is also possible to dismember, disembowel or decapitate, including through the use of explosives. Violence is accompanied by graphic injury detail and copious blood effects. Physical reactions are realistic.
Secondary issues/information
This game offers players the opportunity to purchase in-game items, in the form of different types of enemies, outfits and other aesthetic elements, which some parents or carers may want to be aware of. Parents, carers, or other responsible adults should check to see what is being offered before making any purchase on behalf of a child. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items.
Based on this information, this appears to be a setup that is similar to the wildly popular Dead by Daylight where players can purchase new content packs adding enemies and playable characters.
Evil Dead The Game will be out on May 13, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
