A Plague Tale: Innocence is an action-adventure stealth game developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Home Interactive. It was released onr Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in May, 2019. Along with a cloud-based version for the Nintendo Switch and a release on the Amazon Luna game streaming service, the game was released in July 2021 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The game focuses on the plight of Amicia de Rune and her ill brother Hugo as they flee from French Inquisition soldiers and swarms of rats that are dispersing the black plague in 14th-century Aquitaine, France, during the Hundred Years’ War. Amicia, the player-controlled character, uses stealth and few tools to avoid being seen by or killed by soldiers, avoid rat hordes, and solve puzzles while incorporating elements of survival horror games.
Payers control of Amicia de Rune from a third-person perspective. Stealth must be used throughout a majority of the game to avoid hostile encounters, as enemies instantly kill Amicia upon catching her. Amicia has a sling that she can use to break chains, create distractions, or stun guards long enough for the rats to ambush them. If an enemy’s head is not guarded, she can also kill them with a headshot.
