The PC version of Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world action-adventure game, GTA VI, is reportedly set for release in the first quarter of 2027.
According to a report from GamesBeat, Rockstar Games plans to release the PC version of GTA VI in the first quarter of 2027. The publication cited four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans, who requested anonymity to protect their business relationships. The timeline would put the PC launch just months after the open-world action-adventure game arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. This would be a considerably shorter gap between console and PC release of Grand Theft Auto V, which launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September, 2013, before arriving on PS4 and Xbox One in November, 2014, and then on PC in April, 2015.
With GTA VI’s production budget reportedly exceeding 2 billion US Dollars, bringing the game to PC sooner could provide a significant commercial advantage. Outside of sales, the PC version could play a crucial role in the game’s companion online title. Rockstar Games has expressed interest in user-generated content creation tools, and its August, 2023, acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind the popular FiveM role-playing framework for GTA V, indicated the company’s growing interest in community-driven experiences.
PC support could therefore be particularly important for GTA VI’s anticipated online scene. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy recently indicated in an interview with Bloomberg that GTA VI’s online mode would launch “next year.” “You are going to see this big bump with GTA VI, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer,” he said.
Last month, VGC’s Andy Robinson had a similar report to share regarding the PC version of GTA VI. He mentioned hearing “a bit of noise” about Rockstar Games bringing the PC version forward in response to unusual market conditions. “I do think they’ll push the PC version up. There’s a bit of noise about that,” he said. He then clarified that the PC version may “arrive sooner than some people might expect just because of everything that is going on.” He didn’t mention any specifics regarding his sources, however.
