The secret ending and post-credits scene featured in Xbox Game Studios and Halo Studios’ first-person shooter, Halo: Campaign Evolved, hint at a remake of Halo 2.
Continuing the tradition with other entries in the series, Halo: Campaign Evolved features a new secret ending cutscene that is unlocked upon completing the game on its highest difficulty i.e. Legendary. The cutscene shows Sgt. Johnson in a nostalgic moment, as he watches a scene from the original Halo: Combat Evolved’s Legendary ending. Upon reviewing the footage, he says, “Those were the days.”
Sgt. Johnson’s relaxing moment at the beach is interrupted by the ring exploding in the distance, prompting him to get up from his seat, saying, “Well, that’s my cue.” Before leaving in a Pelican airship, he turns around and breaks the fourth wall by directly addressing the player, saying, “See you in the sequel.”
Meanwhile, the post-credits scene, available after completing Halo: Campaign Evolved on any difficulty, features a more subtle hint for long-time fans of the series. The scene follows 343 Guilty Spark as he travels through space before arriving at a massive gas giant, where a structure suspended by a tether can be seen in the distance. The sequence reveals how Spark eventually reaches the Heretic, setting up the events of the Arbiter’s first mission in Halo 2.
Both hints are strong indicators that Halo Studios is likely working on a Halo 2 remake. Content creator and Halo enthusiast Rebs Gaming received confirmation from multiple sources over the last year regarding Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes being in development. One of his recent sources sent proof to verify themselves and that the trilogy remakes are indeed happening regardless of Campaign Evolved’s reception. Another individual he received information from is the source of his earlier report on Campaign Evolved. The latter also sent him unreleased footage of Campaign Evolved to verify their credentials.
