LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Reportedly Playable Early on Xbox

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight appears to have been accidentally released early on Xbox, with multiple users reporting that the game is currently playable ahead of its official launch later this month.

Posts shared on Reddit suggest the issue began after Xbox pre-loads for the game went live. One user on the r/legogaming subreddit claimed that after pre-ordering and downloading the game, the title launched normally once the “Ready to Start” notification appeared.

“So I just pre ordered the new Lego Batman Legacy Of The Dark Knight game and when I did they let me download it and everything so after It gave me to notifications that it ‘was ready to start’ I clicked on it and this happened is this supposed to happen or am I playing it early or something,” the user wrote.

Deal tracker Wario64 later reported that Xbox players could also access the game through Walmart digital codes. “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (Xbox standard digital) reported playable now via Walmart digital code,” Wario64 posted on social media.

Another Reddit user later detailed their experience after purchasing the Xbox Series X/S digital version through Walmart’s iOS app. According to the post, the code was delivered immediately and redeemed successfully on Xbox before the game launched without release restrictions.

The user claimed the game became fully playable after the download completed, adding that they were able to move through gameplay sections normally after restarting the title. They also briefly commented on performance, saying the game appeared to run at a smooth 60fps in performance mode during the opening area.

Warner Bros. Games and TT Games have not commented on the reported early access situation at the time of writing. It also remains unclear whether the issue affects platforms beyond Xbox.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is scheduled to release on May 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned for a later date.

Developed by TT Games, the title is described as a large-scale open-world Batman adventure focused on a smaller roster of playable characters including Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul. The game also introduces combat systems inspired by the Batman: Arkham series alongside an explorable LEGO version of Gotham City.
