Liberty City Was Allegedly Planned As GTA V DLC, But Likely To Be GTA VI DLC Instead

Liberty City was originally planned as a GTA V DLC, but is now likely to be DLC for the upcoming GTA VI instead, according to a new leak.

A recently surfaced batch of leaked files has reportedly provided new evidence regarding Rockstar Games’ rumored plans to bring Liberty City into GTA V. According to content creator TJGM, some files from the leak have only recently become publicly available, revealing what appears to be a much larger version of the iconic city than the one featured in GTA IV.

One of the prominent findings is a file named “dlcliberty_game.dat151.rel.” The content creator explained that GTA V modding tools such as CodeWalker can use this type of data to identify specific areas of the map associated with audio zones. By isolating the shoreline-related zones contained in the file, the leaked data reportedly produces a complete outline of the proposed Liberty City map, as seen below.

The outline suggests that Rockstar Games was planning an expanded version of Liberty City for GTA V. Rather than simply recreating the map from GTA IV, the proposed DLC appears to have included additional terrain extending beyond the boundaries of the original city. One zone in the XML data is reportedly named “az_dlc_lib_new_terrain_test,” providing further evidence that an expanded map was being tested.

Rockstar Games’ plans to bring Liberty City to GTA V have been rumored for years. Previous leaks included images reportedly showing Liberty City assets running within GTA V, though an expansion was never officially released. A fan-made Liberty City project was also eventually shut down by Take-Two Interactive.

The content creator believes the project may have been shelved because Rockstar Games wanted to push back Liberty City for GTA VI, potentially as DLC.

GTA VI is set for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
