A recent leak has revealed that Mafia: The Old Country, the next game in the beloved Mafia series, will be released in Summer 2025. The leak came from a trailer shown in a YouTube ad, which was then shared on X (formerly known as Twitter). The trailer reportedly shows gameplay footage and cutscenes, expected to be officially revealed during The Game Awards 2024.

Developed by Hangar 13 and published by Take-Two Interactive, Mafia: The Old Country is designed for current-generation platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While the leaked footage has generated a lot of buzz, more details are anticipated at The Game Awards scheduled for December 13.

Earlier hints about the game’s development came through Hangar 13’s job listings. These suggested that the new project—internally referred to as Mafia 4—might move away from the series’ usual urban settings. Listings for Senior 3D Environment Artist highlighted work on organic models and large-scale virtual environments, indicating a focus on procedurally generated landscapes along with manually crafted assets. This suggests a shift from sprawling metropolitan areas, like Las Vegas, to a more expansive, natural world.

Other job listings offered insights into gameplay mechanics. Positions such as Lead AI Designer and Principal AI Designer detailed responsibilities for creating stealth and combat gameplay loops and developing advanced AI systems. These systems aim to enhance both combat and non-combat scenarios, providing players with more strategic options in the game world. The listings also hinted at the inclusion of multiplayer or live-service elements, potentially marking a new direction for the franchise.

Mafia: The Old Country will be out in the Summer of 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X.
