Marvel Tokon Was Originally Planned For A Fall 2026 Release, Change Of Plans May Have Led To PC Optimization Issues

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arc System Works’ latest fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, was apparenrly planned for a Fall 2026 release at one point.

This detail appears to have been confirmed by issue #1 of the Marvel Tokon: First Strike (via ResetEra member Ryce), the tie-in comic book series, released on August 5, 2026, a day ahead of the release of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The promotional material included in the comic strongly suggests that a Fall 2026 launch was the original plan.

The evidence comes from a short message present in the first issue. The comic tells readers that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will arrive “this Fall.” However, the 4v4 tag-team fighter was ultimately released on August 6, 2026, at least a month before the period of September to November. If the comic’s copy was printed while Fighting Souls was still targeting a Fall launch, a subsequent decision to move the game forward would explain why it still referenced a later release window.

As for why the 4v4 tag-team fighter’s launch was moved up, it may have been done to have the game steer clear of the November 19, 2026, launch of GTA VI. The latter’s release, in turn, led to most of the other major Fall releases being moved up to September or October. As such, the quarter is shaping up to by a busy period for major new game releases, and Sony Interactive Entertainment may have been looking to avoid it altogether. Alternatively, the console maker may have decided to launch Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls closer to the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in an effort to develop some cross-medium synergy, especially with the web-swinging superhero being prominently featured in the fighting game.

A release date brought forward by potentially several months can limit the time available for optimization and platform-specific fixes, as is evident with the state of the problems faced by the PC version of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The PC version only received one Beta, that too a mere 2 weeks prior to launch.
