There are currently no signs of a physical disc version of Rockstar Games’ upcoming open world action-adventure game, GTA VI, according to reliable insider Nate the Hate.
In response to a recent report from Polish media outlet PPE.pl regarding the possibility of GTA VI receiving a physical disc version a month after launch in December, known insider Nate the Hate took to Reddit to mention that none of the contacts he spoke to were aware of such developments. He added that this corroborates what The Hollywood Reporter learned regarding the matter, though he is still looking further into it for rock-solid confirmation.
“I’ve only chatted with two contacts & neither were aware of a physical-disc version; so it would align with the report from [The Hollywood Reporter],” said Nate. “I’m still looking further into it for rock-solid confirmation.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source familiar with Rockstar’s plans said those rumours stemmed from a misunderstanding of internal wording. “The language is being misinterpreted by a hopeful internet,” the source mentioned. “At this point in time, there are no plans for Grand Theft Auto VI discs to be printed — not at launch, and not months after.”
The source added that references to a “physical copy” in previous communications referred to the already announced code-in-a-box edition rather than a traditional disc release. They also explained that wording referring to “the following months” was intended to describe the period following this week’s announcement, not the months after the game’s November 19, 2026, launch.
Meanwhile, according to PPE.pl insider Graczdari, physical copies of GTA VI that include a disc are scheduled to arrive after launch in December. The same insider had previously claimed that the game wouldn’t receive a physical release at launch, which turned out true.
GTA VI is set for release for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those who purchase the physical edition will receive a boxed copy containing a digital download code instead of a game disc.
