The pricing of Nintendo Switch 2 games has become a topic of concern for fans, but not all titles are expensive. Here’s the breakdown.
Fans are rightfully confused about the ambiguous messaging regarding the pricing of Nintendo Switch 2 games, as indicated by the recent Direct presentation. However, things aren’t quite as they may seem. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had already set the precedent for future first-party titles costing 69.99 US Dollars, so Donkey Kong Bananza receiving the same price tag didn’t come as a surprise. What did come as a surprise, however, was the 79.99 US Dollar price tag for Mario Kart World.

A quick look at retailer listings shows that not all Nintendo Switch 2 games will be as expensive as Mario Kart World, and it will be the outlier rather than the norm. To clear the confusion, major first-party Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives like the upcoming kart racer, likely including the next Super Smash game, the next Legend of Zelda title, and 3D Mario platformer, will cost 79.99 US Dollars. Furthermore, Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of original Switch titles that add new content will also cost 79.99 US Dollars.
On the other hand, the usual Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives, such as Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders, will be available at the standard price of 69.99 US Dollars. Additionally, Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of original Switch titles that don’t add any new content and only bring graphical and performance upgrades will also cost 69.99 US Dollars. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an exception in this case, as the original Switch game was already priced at 69.99 US Dollars, bringing the upgraded Switch 2 Edition up to 69.99 US Dollars.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle costs 499.99 US Dollars. Since the console is sold individually for 449.99 US Dollars, those who pick up the bundle effectively save 30 US Dollars on the game.
