Patrice Désilets’ 1666: Amsterdam Revealed, Free Prologue Available Now

Panache Digital Games has officially unveiled 1666: Amsterdam, a new third-person, story-driven action-adventure game from creative director Patrice Désilets, best known for his work on the Assassin’s Creed series and Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. The game made its debut during Summer Game Fest 2026, accompanied by a world premiere trailer and the surprise release of a free playable prologue.

Available now on Steam and the Epic Games Store, the standalone prologue offers approximately 30 minutes of gameplay and serves as an introduction to the world, characters, and central mystery that drive the full experience. The complete game is scheduled to enter Early Access on PC later in 2026, with console versions planned for a future release.

Set in Amsterdam during the year 1666, the game presents a world shaped by centuries of hidden influence. According to Panache Digital Games, the city has long been under the control of powerful entities known as the Originals, beings granted extraordinary longevity and influence who have spent generations shaping events from the shadows. As an ancient cycle approaches its conclusion, forces that have been quietly operating for centuries begin to move once again.

Players take on the role of Noa Brooklyn, a character known as the Collector. Raised by a group called the Zaindaris, Noa has been prepared for a destiny she never chose for herself. Alongside her is Aaron, an individual drawn from the year 1999 who experiences the world through the perspective of a cat. Their stories form part of a larger mystery that unfolds across multiple time periods and explores the consequences of actions that span centuries.

One of the game’s central features is its narrative structure, which moves between three different eras: 1666, 1999, and the present day. Players will gradually uncover connections between these timelines as they piece together the truth behind the forces shaping the world. The game also includes an early choice that determines which companion accompanies Noa on her journey, influencing aspects of the story as it progresses.

The prologue focuses on Noa’s Commencement, a pivotal event that marks her acceptance of the role of Collector and begins her journey into a world filled with secrets, obligations, and hidden powers. Panache describes the experience as an introduction to a universe where appearances can be deceiving and where centuries of unseen influence continue to affect the present.

In a statement accompanying the reveal, Désilets said the project has been in development for six years and emphasized the studio’s focus on creating a playable experience rather than relying on promotional demonstrations. He described the newly released prologue as a small preview of a much larger adventure, comparing it to an appetizer before a much more substantial experience.

The studio behind the game has grown to nearly 70 developers during production, with the Montreal-based team dedicating years to building the new franchise. The release of a playable prologue marks the first opportunity for players to experience the project firsthand and provide feedback before the full game enters Early Access.
