Sony has unveiled the next generation of its PlayStation audio lineup with the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge Wireless Headset. Both models feature custom planar magnetic drivers and PlayStation Link connectivity, with the standard Pulse headset launching this holiday season and Pulse Edge following in early 2027.
The new headsets build on the technology introduced with Pulse Elite in 2024. Sony says the updated planar magnetic drivers are designed to provide improved sound separation and spatial accuracy, helping players pick out directional audio cues such as footsteps and weapon reloads.
Both PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge use larger planar drivers than the previous Pulse Elite design, with Sony aiming to provide deeper and fuller bass while retaining the clarity and precision associated with the technology.
PlayStation Link connectivity provides lossless, ultra-low latency audio and allows the headsets to switch between compatible devices, including PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac. Both models can also connect to supported Bluetooth devices simultaneously.
For voice chat, each headset features AI-enhanced noise rejection designed to reduce background sounds picked up by the microphone. The headsets have also received an updated physical design intended to improve comfort and durability, while rotating earcups allow them to sit flat for easier transportation.
Both models will be available in White and Midnight Black.
The Pulse Edge sits above the standard model and adds several features aimed at players looking for a more premium audio experience. Its planar magnetic drivers use double the magnet volume of those in PlayStation Pulse, with 8 magnets per planar driver compared with 4 in the standard headset.
Pulse Edge also includes active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone with AI noise rejection, and a hidden microphone that can be used when the boom is removed. It also features built-in game audio and chat balance controls for PS5, an audio and microphone jack, and a carrying case.

Sony has not yet announced pricing or specific release dates for either headset. The PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset is scheduled to launch in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while Pulse Edge will follow from early 2027.
