PlayStation Stars Will No Longer Offer Reward Points For PS Plus Subscriptions

PlayStation Stars will no longer offer reward points for subscribing to any of the PS Plus tiers, according to the program’s updated Terms of Service.

In an email sent out to members of its PlayStation Stars, Sony Interactive Entertainment has informed that it is updating the reward program’s Terms of Service. Starting October 24, 2024, members must accept the updated PlayStation Stars Terms of Service in order to become or remain a PlayStation Stars member.

As per the email, from October 24, 2024 onward, new reward points earned will expire at the end of the month plus 12 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance. However, reward points earned prior to October 24, 2024 will continue to expire at the end of the month plus 24 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance.

Furthermore, from March 1, 2025, the definition of eligible purchases for PlayStation Stars reward points will be updated to exclude all subscription payments, made on PlayStation Store (including any initial or renewal subscription payments for PS Plus or any other subscription service). This essentially means that reward points will no longer be earned on subscription payments.

The removal of PS Plus subscriptions and renewals from eligible purchases for PlayStation Stars will certainly come as a disappointment to members. It effectively limits the avenue for them to earn reward points. The required points for some of the rewards, such as recently released first-party titles, are rather steep, and this will only make it tougher to redeem them. To make matters worse, games offered via the rewards section of the PlayStation Stars app are often removed after a certain period. A quick look at the Rewards section on the PlayStation Stars mobile app reveals that the program has removed most PS5 titles. These game could previously have been acquired by redeeming accumulated reward points.
