Sony Pictures has released the final trailer for Resident Evil, offering a fresh look at director Zach Cregger’s upcoming reboot of Capcom’s long-running survival horror franchise ahead of its theatrical debut next month.
The film follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a medical courier whose routine night takes a deadly turn as he becomes trapped in the chaos of a rapidly unfolding outbreak.
According to the official synopsis, “From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.”
Directed by Cregger and written by Cregger alongside Shay Hatten, the reboot tells a standalone story rather than adapting the established characters from the games. Instead, it takes place during the Raccoon City outbreak, with the filmmakers drawing inspiration from the atmosphere and survival horror of titles such as Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7.
The cast includes Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser. The film is produced by Robert Kulzer, Zach Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan and Asad Qizilbash, with Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film producing in association with TriStar Pictures.
Resident Evil arrives in cinemas on September 18, 2026.
