The job listings describe a role focused on protecting PlayStation players and services from a variety of fraud risks. Among the responsibilities outlined are monitoring evolving fraud and abuse trends, recommending both tactical and long-term responses to emerging threats, and translating fraud risks into actionable technical and business requirements. The successful candidates will also work closely with product, engineering, analytics, and operations teams to develop and implement fraud mitigation initiatives.

Another key aspect of the role involves identifying opportunities to improve existing fraud platforms, tools, and workflows, while helping integrate those improvements into future development efforts. Sony is also looking for candidates with experience in online fraud risk mitigation, trust and safety, online payments, digital commerce, and account security systems.

Last Stand Media’s Colin Moriarty commented on the listings, noting that he has spoken with individuals at Sony Interactive Entertainment who seemed to take existing PSN account security concerns seriously, and he doubts the timing of the new positions is merely coincidental. Moriarty has spent time investigating how PSN account thefts are being carried out. More details here.

Sony Interactive Entertainment serves more than 100 million users through its hardware, software, and online services, making fraud prevention an increasingly important challenge as digital ecosystems continue to grow. The Senior Fraud Strategist roles are designed to strengthen the company’s ability to identify emerging threats, improve fraud detection capabilities, and coordinate responses across multiple departments. Candidates will be expected to define fraud metrics, evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation efforts, collaborate with external vendors, and serve as subject-matter experts for cross-functional teams.
