A new rumor suggests Valve may be preparing to announce the Steam Machine’s price and release date sometime between June 23 and June 30, though the information remains unconfirmed.
The claims originate from the HardwareSteam account on X, which cited sources familiar with Valve’s plans. According to the account, a review embargo for the Steam Machine is scheduled to lift on June 23.
“Source told me review video embargo lifts June 23. Embargo for Steam Controller was April 27, was announced April 27,” the account stated.
The source speculated that if Valve follows a similar strategy, an announcement on June 23 could be followed by a launch on June 30, which would align with Valve’s previously stated goal of releasing the device during the first half of the year.
The account also pointed to documentation reportedly indicating a June 29 date for the release of the Steam Machine user manual. According to the source, both June 22 and June 29 fall on Mondays, mirroring the launch pattern used for the Steam Controller, which was announced and released one week apart.
In a separate post, HardwareSteam claimed that Valve’s internal launch plans have shifted several times in recent weeks.
“Valve has been changing launch plans for Steam Frame & Steam Machine a lot on the inside. Machine is still 100% getting its price and launch announcement a day between June 22-30, but I’ve heard multiple different things about Frame from people because of how much plans have changed.”
The same source added that while there remains a possibility of news regarding the Steam Frame alongside the Steam Machine announcement, details regarding Valve’s VR headset remain unclear.
The Steam Machine may have also appeared in recent Geekbench benchmark listings. A device believed to be associated with the hardware posted a single-core score of 2,282 and a multi-core score of 7,392.
The latest rumor follows earlier reports from XR analyst Brad Lynch, who claimed that Steam Frame units had begun arriving at Valve’s US warehouses. Lynch cited import tracking data showing shipments labeled as “Virtual Reality Devices” entering Valve’s distribution facilities in bulk quantities beginning June 10, 2026.
According to Lynch, Valve currently has no other VR hardware in production, leading him to believe the shipments are related to the Steam Frame. He also noted that the gap between warehouse arrivals and the announcement of the Steam Controller was approximately three to four weeks, potentially offering a rough timeline for Valve’s next hardware reveal.
