Tencent is working on a third-person action-adventure game inspired by The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Tomb Raider.
A series of job listings published by Tencent throughout this year have revealed details an unannounced AAA single-player title, codenamed Project T. Going by the job requirements, it is a story-driven, third-person action-adventure game being developed in Unreal Engine 5 for PC and current-generation consoles. Multiple listings from Tencent state that candidates should have a “strong interest in and deep understanding of third-person action-adventure games,” specifically naming The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Tomb Raider as sources of inspiration.
The Game Director listing seeks candidates who understands the “underlying design logic, development process, and methodology” behind games like Uncharted and Tomb Raider, while the Senior Level Designer role also mentions The Last of Us alongside those franchises.
The design philosophy described across the listings strongly suggests a linear, narrative-driven title. The Game Director position requires expertise in “linear gameplay experiences,” while the Level Designer role involves building “linear levels,” covering everything from whitebox blockouts and player routing to pacing, AI placement, and gameplay flow. These are traits of cinematic action-adventure games that guide players through set-piece driven sequences.
The UE5 Gameplay (3C) Engineer listing specifically mentions implementing advanced locomotion systems “for complex terrain,” including climbing and parkour mechanics. Meanwhile, the animation role highlights creating high-difficulty animations for “climbing, combat, and environmental interaction.” This indicates that Project T will feature plenty of platforming and traversal mechanics similar to those seen in the Uncharted and Tomb Raider series.
On the technical front, the Senior Engine Developer listing references Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps (VSM), and MegaLights, while engineers are expected to customize Unreal Engine’s low-level systems and optimize graphics at the Rendering Hardware Interface (RHI) level. Multiple listings mention optimizing assets and animations for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC.
The listings also mention refining production pipelines, establishing standards, optimizing shipped-quality assets, and iterating based on playtesting, suggesting that Project T has likely been in active development before the recent hiring began.
