The World Video Game Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2023 inductees at The Strong National Museum of Play, among which is none other than Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. The first-party PlayStation title is one of four chosen games. These games were picked for having influenced popular culture or the video game industry in a significant manner.
The four inductees in the 2023 class of Video Game Hall of Fame are The Last of Us, Wii Sports, Computer Space, and Barbie Fashion Designer. They were shortlisted from a field of finalists that also included Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, FIFA International Soccer, Goldeneye 007, NBA 2K, Quake, and Wizardry. The World Video Game Hall of Fame will move into a new location on June 30, 2023 as part of a 90,000 square-foot expansion of The Strong, where the games will be inducted and put on display.
The World Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong was founded in 2015 to honor video games of all kinds, including arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile games that have amassed a significant amount of popularity over time and had an impact on the video game industry, popular culture, and society at large. The World Video Game Hall of Fame will open its doors on June 30, 2023 and will house a permanent exhibition of the inductees, which were announced on May 4, 2023 at The Strong museum in Rochester, New York. The World Video Game Hall of Fame accepts game nominations from everyone. Final decisions are based on suggestions from journalists, academics, and other experts knowledgeable about the development of video games and their social impact.
