Xbox icons for the company’s unannounced Disc to Digital program may have been discovered, according to a new report.
Reddit user Morichh shared two icons on the Xbox subreddit, suggesting that they may be connected to Microsoft’s Disc to Digital feature. The program is expected to allow players to convert eligible physical Xbox games into digital licenses. The icons appear to be characters from a Windows TrueType font called “Xbox Fluent v2 Regular,” which carries a 2021 copyright date. The font functions similarly to Wingdings or other dingbat fonts, meaning the icons are not necessarily newly created assets.
As seen in the image above, the icons depict a disc combined with symbols that indicate the transition or conversion of physical media into a digital format. The Reddit user clarified that they were discovered inside the font library by a friend of theirs who tracks Microsoft Store leaks.
Recently leaked documentation mentioned that he public beta for Xbox’s Disc to Digital and early access to backward compatibility for original Xbox titles took place in July, 2026. General availability for Disc to Digital is said to begin later this month in August, bringing the feature to Xbox One and Xbox Series X owners. According to the document, users will reportedly insert a supported physical disc to link a digital license to that copy. However, the communication does not explain the technical process for transferring or invalidating the license if the disc changes ownership.
Earlier, during an episode of Digital Foundry’s DF Direct podcast, co-host John Linneman revealed that he had heard from multiple sources that Microsoft previously intended to continue supporting physical games in some capacity for its next Xbox hardware. He speculated that the company’s plans may have involved an external disc drive or another method of authenticating physical game ownership, potentially in relation to the rumored Disc to Digital entitlement program.
