Rockstar Still Has Not Identified Source Of GTA 6 Leak

Rockstar Games has reportedly been unable to determine who was behind this week’s widespread GTA 6 leak or how the latest security breach occurred. According to a Bloomberg report from Jason Schreier, the company is investigating the incident but has no plans to delay its upcoming Netflix gameplay premiere.

The latest leak began earlier this week when an individual or group operating under the name CyberLeek started publishing new footage and other material from Grand Theft Auto VI. The incident comes just three months before the game’s scheduled release, making it particularly significant for Rockstar as it enters the final stage of its marketing campaign.

According to a person familiar with Rockstar’s strategy who spoke anonymously to Bloomberg, the studio has not yet identified the source of the breach. Management is reportedly operating on an “all hands on deck” basis while attempting to determine how the leak occurred and identify those responsible.

Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has also taken steps to investigate the incident. Its lawyers have reportedly sought records from Microsoft and Discord that could potentially help identify the source of the leaked material.

Despite the breach, Rockstar does not currently intend to change its marketing plans. The company is still expected to present an extended first look at GTA 6 gameplay through Netflix on August 27.

The latest incident has reportedly caused frustration and anger within Rockstar, particularly because Grand Theft Auto VI has now been subjected to two major leaks. The first major breach in 2022 resulted in significant changes to the studio’s security practices, and the latest incident could lead to further changes once the source of the breach is established.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
