The launch of Borderlands 3 is not exactly smooth. Players are reporting issues with the performance of the game and crash on PC. The review situation around it was also strange with how the developers decide to give reviews to only a select few outlets. How To Fix Borderlands 3 DX12 Crash On PC
While this issue can be resolved with a patch that can be released by Gearbox Software, if you are still having this problem, there is a simple fix that was shared on reddit.
Follow the steps listed below to use a temporary fix that should get the game working on your PC.
- Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My games\Borderlands 3\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
- Open the GameUserSettings.ini in a text editor and change this line
- PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX12 to PreferredGraphicsAPI=DX1
This should help launch the game and bypass the DX12 problem. You can change this setting back once it is fixed by Gearbox Software.
