The lead designer for Sekiro is directing From Software’s forthcoming title, Armored Core 6, based on the latest information.
It has been revealed via Bandai Namco’s fact sheet that Masaru Yamamura, the lead designer for Sekiro, is at the helm of the development of Armored Core 6. It was also revealed that development originally began with Hidetaka Miyazaki as the initial director, but he later stepped down.
Based on the details shared in the fact sheet, From Software aims to combine its longstanding expertise in mech games and their signature robust gameplay to deliver a brand new action experience with Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicorn.
In Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicorn, players will assemble and pilot their own mech with 3D maneuverability to move freely through three dimensional fast-paced missions. They will get to take on difficult challenges and overwhelm their enemies with dynamic movements that make full use of ranged and melee combat. As per the description, players will be able to use a variety of actions that can only be truly realized with mechs.
The game‘s story involves a mysterious new substance that was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, the substance caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System.
Half a century later, the same substance resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe. Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups now fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themself in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.
Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicorn is set to arrive on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC sometime in 2023.
