A new comparison video has surfaced online showcasing the visual differences between the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and its upcoming remake, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The footage highlights a significant overhaul in presentation, with the remake introducing more detailed environments, updated lighting, and improved character models.
The contrast between the two versions is immediately noticeable. The remake presents a cleaner and more vibrant look, with denser environments and refined animations. However, some fans have raised concerns that the updated visuals may come at the cost of the original game’s mood and atmosphere, suggesting that the new presentation appears brighter and less stylized. The shift in art direction has become a point of discussion, with developers said to be aware of the feedback.
Ubisoft has already outlined several technical improvements behind the remake. Speaking about the PS5 Pro version, Ubisoft Singapore Technical Director Jussi Markkanen said, “We were extremely impressed with the enhanced PSSR. It really redefines the graphics experience in console games. It allowed us to render our dynamic tropical world full of swaying palm trees, violent storms and rogue waves without visible upscaling artifacts, delivering sharp pixel quality and great image stability.”
Additional enhancements include expanded ray tracing support across both PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. Ubisoft Montréal Technical Architect Nicolas Lopez explained, “Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced pushes ray tracing further across all modes on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. PlayStation 5 brings more consistent lighting, while PlayStation 5 Pro delivers a no-compromise experience with advanced ray tracing performance and enhanced PSSR.”
Beyond visuals, the remake is built on the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, bringing upgrades to environmental density, character detail, and animation quality. Gameplay systems have also been reworked, including smoother parkour, more fluid combat with chained takedowns, and improved stealth mechanics that allow players to recover from mistakes rather than restarting missions. New story content, additional characters, and expanded naval gameplay systems have also been introduced.
Ubisoft has also confirmed a wide range of PC configurations, supporting performance targets from 1080p at 30 frames per second up to 4K at 60 frames per second with extended ray tracing, depending on hardware.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is scheduled to launch on July 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
