Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced New Game Plus is officially in development, with the feature among the studio’s highest post-launch priorities.
Speaking in an interview with YouTuber JorRaptor, game director Richard Knight confirmed work on the mode is already underway.
“Yes, we’re working on that right now,” Knight said.
He added that the feature is “one of the first things” the development team is focusing on after launch, explaining that Assassin’s Creed Shadows provided a useful foundation. However, he noted that Black Flag Resynced has a different game structure, meaning additional development is still required before the mode is ready.
Knight also made it clear that there is no release window yet for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced New Game Plus.
“We’re still doing the work, so I can’t promise exactly a day or anything. It’s at the top of the list of things.”
When asked whether New Game Plus could include exclusive rewards, Knight said he would like to see them added but stressed that discussions are still ongoing. He explained that creating new rewards is more complex than it may appear, as even cosmetic additions require new character models, cloth simulation, and animation work.
Beyond New Game Plus, Knight discussed several other features the team is considering. He confirmed Ubisoft Singapore is listening to community requests for Hidden Blade combat and dual Hidden Blade parries but said the team initially prioritised rebuilding the game’s core combat system. He also acknowledged requests for additional combat finishers, although he noted they are expensive to produce due to the amount of animation work involved.
Mission replay and optional mission objectives have also been explored internally. According to Knight, the modern Anvil engine currently lacks the technology to support those features, meaning they would require significant additional development before they could be implemented.
One feature that appears to be closer to release is an option to hide Edward Kenway’s blowpipe. Knight revealed that a senior programmer is already working on a toggle for the cosmetic option.
The interview also confirmed that Ezio and Altaïr legacy outfits are planned for a future update, although no release date was provided. Knight cautioned players against assuming datamined assets are guaranteed to appear in the game, noting that development files often contain unused or placeholder content.
Finally, Knight said Ubisoft plans to continue supporting Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced with bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements after launch, although he did not specify how long post-launch support will continue.
