Xbox Responds After Streamer Loses Microsoft Account Access

by Ali Haider

Xbox has responded after streamer Joshua Khane Microsoft account claims went viral, following his allegations that he lost access to his Microsoft account, OneDrive files and years of digital purchases after it was compromised.

In a series of posts on X, Khane claimed Microsoft permanently deleted his account despite acknowledging that it had been hacked. He wrote: “Microsoft DELETED my account AND OneDrive!!?? After ACKNOWLEDGING that I’m the owner of the account and that it was compromised???”

Khane said the loss included “25 fucking years of data, thousands of euros spended on games” as well as his son’s baby pictures stored on OneDrive. He criticised Microsoft’s handling of the situation, claiming the company chose to delete the account rather than restore access after verifying his ownership.

In its public reply, Xbox said: “We’re sorry this happened, it’s not the experience we want anyone to have when their account is compromised. We have been working to restore access to your purchases and reached out with the next steps. Please check your voicemail or inbox.”

The response indicates Microsoft is attempting to restore access to Khane’s purchased content, although it does not mention the status of his OneDrive files or whether the Microsoft account itself can be recovered.

According to Khane, Microsoft had previously informed him that the account was compromised and that unauthorised changes had been made to its security information. He said he was told the account had been permanently suspended under the Microsoft Services Agreement and that encrypted account data could not be recovered.

Microsoft has not issued any further public statement on the case beyond Xbox Support’s response.
