The success of Game Science’s action role-playing game, Black Myth: Wukong, has resulted in the funding of more games and studios from China.
Daniel Camilo, Publishing and Gaming Consultant in China, took to Twitter/X to share that the success of Black Myth: Wukong has ensured funding of several different studios and games in China, including a major PS5 exclusive.
Camilo further stated that he has heard different accounts directly from those who have been working at different studios in China. He noted that the effect of Black Myth: Wukong’s success is real, although he didn’t have more specifics to share at this time, as he is currently in the process of trying to confirm details.
The gaming consultant elaborated that the success of Black Myth: Wukong effectively pushed many Chinese investors to pour resources into different local studios. As per him, there are hundreds of active game studios in China.
Regarding the aforementioned major PS5 exclusive, Camilo said that it is a well-known game, suggesting that he may have been referring to an already announced title.
In related news, it was recently revealed that Black Myth: Wukong had received a new rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which lists it for Xbox Series platforms. Initially, Game Science had delayed the Xbox version, resulting in rumors regarding a possible exclusivity deal with PlayStation. However, this speculation has since been cleared up. There were also suggestions that the delay might be due to technical difficulties, particularly memory leak issues on Xbox Series consoles. Despite these setbacks, however, the new ESRB rating suggests that the game is finally ready to launch on Xbox. In addition to the potential Xbox release, Black Myth: Wukong is rumored to be getting new DLC content, the first of which is expected to arrive in January, 2025.
