Destiny 2 Fans Are Rallying Up For Final Update To Exceed Marathon Peak CCU & Convince Bungie To Make Destiny 3

by Muhammad Ali Bari

Destiny 2 fans appear to be rallying up for the game’s final update in order to exceed the all-time peak concurrent player count of Marathon and convince Bungie to work on Destiny 3.

As Destiny 2 approaches its final content update, fans are rallying up a server slam to surpass the all-time peak concurrent player count of Marathon in hopes of convincing Bungie and Sony Interactive Entertainment to make Destiny 3 and not abandon the franchise. A Reddit post by user w1nds0r (via JakeSucky on Twitter/X), titled “Everyone – Log in on June 9th”, has gained traction on the Destiny subreddit since it was published on May 22, 2026. As of writing, the post has amassed more than 5,200 upvotes and over 1,000 comments, with many players pledging to return to the game when the final update arrives on June 9, 2026.

The post called on fans to log in to Destiny 2 on the day of the update and encourage friends and clanmates to do the same. “We need to at least smash Marathon’s all time high to show them they made the wrong decision,” the post reads. In response, one highly upvoted comment from Neolombax stated, “Log in for Destiny, not to prove a point against Marathon.” The author edited their post to clarify that the initiative is not intended as an attack on Marathon. Instead, they described it as an effort to show Bungie and Sony Interactive Entertainment that Destiny still has a passionate audience and deserves future projects.

Another highly upvoted comments came from Reddit user TheRed24, who wrote, “I’ll be there. It’s so frustrating because the update itself actually looks genuinely great, so many things we’ve been asking for for years, it’s just bittersweet knowing it’s the final content drop and there’s no assurance we’ll get another Destiny game.”

Others echoed a similar sentiment, suggesting that Bungie appears to have been given greater freedom to implement long-requested features now that Destiny’s future roadmap is uncertain. User Keksis_the_Defiled argued that management may have stepped aside and allowed developers to focus on changes players actually wanted rather than controversial system overhauls.

Some fans plan to participate simply because of what Destiny has meant to them over the last decade. User sup3rdr01d wrote, “I’ll be there. Not to send any kind of message but simply because I like this game. It’s meant so much to me over a decade.” Others expressed hope that a strong showing could eventually influence Bungie’s plans. User WhenInAaronRome commented, “I will log in to show them that putting aside 5 years to work on Destiny 3 will be worth it.”
