EXODUS Details Character Customisation Plans

by Greg Martin

The team behind EXODUS has published its latest community update, offering fresh details on the game’s character customisation, reflecting on its recent gameplay reveal, and providing an update on the expanding science-fiction universe surrounding the upcoming RPG.

Following the extended gameplay presentation shown during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase earlier this month, the developers said they had been closely following community reactions and discussions. According to the team, feedback surrounding the game’s companions, combat, Awakened animals, and morality system has helped highlight which aspects players are most eager to learn more about.

One of the most frequently discussed topics since the reveal has been character customisation, prompting the studio to clarify its approach.

Rather than offering a fully featured character creator with detailed facial and body sliders, EXODUS will feature a more defined protagonist named Jun. Players will still be able to personalise the character through a selection of curated cosmetic options, including hairstyles, facial hair, hair colour, eye colour, makeup and tattoos.

The developers said this approach reflects a creative decision made during development to give Jun a more established identity while still allowing players to customise the character’s appearance. Additional previews of the available customisation options will be shared through the official EXODUS Discord server over the coming months.

The update also highlighted the continued expansion of the EXODUS universe beyond the game itself. EXODUS: The Helium Sea, the latest novel by acclaimed science-fiction author Peter F. Hamilton, is now available. Serving as the conclusion to the story that began in The Archimedes Engine, the novel follows an exiled faction returning to the Centauri Cluster after 7,000 years to challenge the ruling Celestials, with humanity’s future hanging in the balance.

For readers new to the series, the developers also noted that a free excerpt from The Archimedes Engine is available.

In addition, the team announced that EXODUS Chronicles of Melayu, a new tabletop role-playing game sourcebook, is now available for pre-order ahead of its planned October 2026 release.

Set in the Hylase star system, the campaign follows players from their first Exodus through an adventure spanning distant regions of the Centauri Cluster. The book joins the previously announced Traveler’s Handbook and Creature Catalog as part of the EXODUS tabletop role-playing game line.

Players who pre-order Chronicles of Melayu will also receive a complimentary digital PDF version when it launches.
