The PS5 version of Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games action role-playing game, Fable, was originally rumored to receive a late release in 2026, but the recent delay may now lead to a day one multi-platform launch.
Known insider NateDrake (also known as Nate the Hate on social media) took to gaming enthusiast forum Reset Era to respond to a comment on Playground Games’ upcoming action role-playing game getting delayed to 2026. As per him, the game was still on track for a 2025 release in December, 2024. He speculated that the reason behind the sudden delay of Fable was to allow some extra time for polish and to make the PS5 version a day one release alongside Xbox Series X|S and PC.

According to Nate, the PS5 version of Fable was always slated for the year 2026. As such, he implied that the delay only applied to the Xbox and PC versions.
Nate further mentioned that his speculation is only with regards to the nature of the delay. As far as Fable coming to PS5 in 2026 is concerned, he clarified that it is not speculation. As per him, that timeline was based on when the action role-playing game was slated for 2025 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. With Fable now delayed to 2026, he now believes that it is launching on PS5 alongside the other platforms.
The news about Fable’s delay was shared by Craig Duncan, Head of Xbox Game Studios, during a recent Xbox podcast, where he expressed confidence in Playground Games and the progress it has made on the project. “So, I just want to start with really excited, really excited about progress, really excited where Playground are, ” said Duncan. “We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025, we are actually going to give Fable more time and it’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait. And I just, I have unequivocal confidence in the Playground team.”
